How can I find boat motor parts for a 5 hp motor Model # 217-58610?

We have an old ( I mean old ) Sears / Roebuck motor for a boat and cannot find the parts we need to fix the problem, all help will be greatly appreciated.

I believe what you have there is a 1970 5hp Sears, also marketed under the names Gamefisher and Ted Williams. These where built by Eska outboards, and used a Tecumseh (tec) air cooled powerhead with a water cooled exhaust housing. Believe it or not, some parts are still available from Sears. You can also try some of the sites I have listed below. Hope this helps.

Mercury Marine Outboard Engine Video History – Part 1

You can power an outboard motor?

I have a 90hp Evinrude and according to the manual requires a "minimum" of about 350 battery, my brother came over and gave me the other day about a 750 marine battery, it is safe to use a larger battery than recommended

so go ahead and use it, the minimum is the smallest I would never recommend it to a rig engine, such that even in a small boat with just under 500 cca. Remember that only for the engine and does not take into with something else that can be connected to the battery. when a fishing boat with many accessories 350 series is very small. and by the way MARINE BATTERIES are valued at 65 degrees F. not 32. that is why many people who ship the battery in the winter and have trouble using it in other vehicles. on my personal boats and boat I always use my service the biggest battery I can. if you're on the water, which is a bad time for the battery to the ps cheap insurance when problems arise

Johnson 90hp outboard boat motor – not used for 8 years?

I am considering buying a motorcycle on ebay that the storage in the last 8 years. Seller says that 8 years ago before they store the engine worked great. Recently, the seller controls the compression and the results were good? What should I AKS about the engine? What could have gone wrong with the engine since. Is it safe to buy and assume that it will work because it worked fine 8 years ago? The seller is asking $ 900 for the engine, shipping add another $ 200 or so. Is that they were able to carry out a compression test, it means that the power head works OK?

Controlled for a long time to start of injectors can become clogged carburetor could be stuck on gaskets ready to crack may be in great shape are quite a gamble.

If you are ever thinking about owning a boat, the first thing to consider is how much it will cost. Once you have determined that you can afford it and have found a place where you can store, you need to make sure you know how to actually operate it. Most states, if not all, require boat owners to have a license to prove who really know how to operate your boat. For many people, getting a license means that one must attend a class that instruct him / her on all security functions and general operating characteristics of a ship.

According to a fan boat, David Pascual, inspect your boat regularly. Depending on the size of the boat, this inspection should not take longer than thirty minutes. By inspecting his ship on a regular basis, you can save hundreds (even thousands) of dollars in repairs on the line. According to Pascoe, many boat owners do not really know or understand too much about the maintenance of motor boats. Most boat owners put too much emphasis on oil change, not realizing that most damage to the motor boat is the result of the failure to maintain the cooling system. Contrary to popular belief, a boat engine cooling system is different from a car. Unlike cars, boats using the water they are floating on to cool the engine. Therefore, if you're riding around in the water contaminated, more than likely, your engine is getting the brunt. For this reason, Pascual Practice good filters (also known as filters of the sea). This is not a place to be frugal, find out what kind of water the boat usually sits in. If your boat is usually moored or horseback riding through salt water ruin your engine over time so you need to make sure that their water pumps are inspected regularly.

If you have a closed system cooling on his boat (also known as fresh water cooling), care must be taken with the construction of crap up. Accumulation act as an insulator, gradually slow the ship's cooling system. When you are pouring coolant into the engine, ensure that they are not investing too. As we all know, too much of anything is usually a bad thing. And in fact, having too much coolant will cause unwanted junk to build. Also, be sure to read the manual for instructions on how to properly pour in the coolant (because there is a specific process for doing so).

Change the oil in a pot is a little different than changing the oil in your car. Unlike a car, forced to change the oil every "X" number of miles oil in a boat (if diesel) should be changed at least every 100 hours. This is because the carbon is stored in the oil, which will be transferred to the piston ring grooves and eventually cause the rings to stick, it's not a good thing. For gas engines, oil change is not as dependent on the number of hours, but rather should take place before the oil blackens. You see, as the engine builds up oil products, will be darker, becoming more acidic in the process, which can cause internal damage to your engine. This is the reason I want to change that before it's black. How often would change the oil in a gas canister depend on a number of things, such as geographic location.

Cold Start Diesel Boat engine (Sabb diesel)

Securing a Yamaha 15 hp (4 stroke) and trailer?

I have a 1915 Yamaha 4-stroke. If I tow the boat with the motor in the down position, as the manual recommends, the lower unit (Skag?) is close to the road. I can tilt it up, but it can bounce and fall to the lowest position since this "lock" is not Trailer. All the manual says is safe for the engine upright "in one way or another" trailer if necessary. Has anyone seen a good way to secure the motor tilted so that the engine drags the pavement? Thanks

I have exactly the same setup, but with an April 15 stroke Honda. The Honda manual gives a minimum distance of eight inches between the skeg and the ground. And if too close then advises the user to develop a strong, secure support, because, as you say, the lock is not intended for pulling situations. I use a bank of light 50mm purpose made box about seven or eight inches in length (in this case). Each end of the box is covered with a target made of plastic stopper if I had access to these, but you could fashion a square wedge of soft wood. At each end of the box is drilled Rite-thru bore to the right) accepting of the engine removable pin (about 8mm i think. The pin may be withdrawn and replaced by the box, to attach very safe indeed, at that end. Drill holes near the ends the mirror to avoid the short end contacting the boat. But far enough for strength. Swing the box to the leg support unit square to rest (ie 90 degrees) On the other hand on your desired height. (On mine, I set it the same as one of the stops, so it's belt and braces!). Then through the hole drilled on the other side of the profession, it firmly to the outboard leg by two very heavy cable ties: through the holes and around the leg. Take a small supply in your starter kit and just cut them off when done, Take a little time and make the box carefully and will work to make the years. -|–)

I can not figure out how to allow it to lower a 1972 Mercury 1500 (150 hp) outboard. Please Please help!?

The bolts in the direction of the propeller is simple, but my main problem is that I can not figure out where you shift the link to break. I know that old Johnson outboard engines are at the bottom of the block. Is the same on a mercury? Or is it something else?

into the forward gear to remove all nuts and bolts trim tab under it.if not in salt water should loosen easy.when back to make sure you water the pump tube guide because you need the water pipe to get into the housing. Do not forget your gear in forward and to keep the ball and turn right into the crank shaft to seize. also keep your splines shift in position. If you have a problem let me know. ps do not get to mark your trim tab
