Using outboard boat during the cold weather.and winterizing?

I do not own an outboard so far I only Mercruiser / O. Had always winterized by a shop. It seems from what I've read and asked of people is pretty easy winterizing outboard motors. I have a 1976 Johnson 85 hp Javelin. If I understand correctly winterizing an outboard motor is simply draining the water by lowering it, draining the lower unit oil to ensure there is no water in it, and cover the cylinders or even just using the stabilizer in the gas and / or running out of gas. If this is correct, then it seems that I should be able to boat use in cold weather and only steps from the above applications. I would like feedback from people who use outboards during the winter. One last question. Is there any advantage in marine antifreeze running through it? I mean with antifreeze to flush the joints between the winter use. It is only used in fresh water

Your pretty much on track …….. The most important thing is to fog the engine as it will not be used for 30 days, then hit the engine down (not angled). A difficult problem is that winter snow can pile up and get into the exhaust through the hub, with thawing and refreezing can crack the case. What we did was duct tape over the end of the plug, and / or embed in a plastic bag or bags. If you suspect that mud or sand has accumulated in the water jacket in the head, it can not hurt to put a little antifreeze in the marine system. Otherwise no need to do that. . Do not leave fuel in the engine or tank …….. E-10 has a short shelf life …… even with stabilization. I use my boat through early January, then pick up again in March.

Sears Ted Williams 7.5 HP Outboard Motor

What is the highest horsepower outboard motor that can be used on a Cape Dory Typhoon sailboat 19 meters long, safe?

I want to use the boat to go whale to spot if we do not sail and the currents can be up to 4 or 5 knots. The hull speed is six knots.

There is no record on these older USCG sailboat, but I can tell you Carl Alberg that these boats are designed to be extremely seaworthy. I had one of the larger 24 "kittiwakes representing preformed with both a 9.5 and a 6 hp Evinrude. I would say that you check the engine mount and the size and go with what fits best, probably the 6 hp short shaft. Good luck! I already have a question, you can "chase" among whales sail?

4 Stroke Outboards

4 stroke outboards

4 stroke outboards

Purchase of outboard motors used can be a daunting process if you do not know what to look for. Carefully inspect the engine and obviously we hope will be some surface scratches and scrapes, but signs of immediate impact, then do not buy, no matter how cheap it is.

The propeller is a vulnerable part of entering motor in direct contact with underwater obstacles such as rocks and old shopping carts submerged. Check carefully from every angle, as it should be smooth with no bumps and dents.

Below the propeller is called the fin tip portion. If the heel or the propeller is damaged or bent, there may be some damage most serious internal elsewhere.

Always remove the cover to use outboard motors and have a good look at the bottom. As you would with a hood the car, looking for signs of leaking oil, fuel or water that may indicate damaged joints or seals. All electrical connections must be in good condition and tight.

Ask to see the engine. A two-stroke engine will give you a little smoke, but this should stop when you heated. If fumes carried out, there either could have problems or too much oil could have been added to the fuel. The smoke from a heated four-stroke engine is much more serious, since they must burn fuel cleaner. Check engine oil four times (there will be a stick that shows the level of oil). If it looks milky or there is evidence of water, there will be problems that require professional care.

If the engine starts quickly then it is worth considering.

Check the spark plugs by removing of them and looking for excessive deposits that may show signs of repairs or adjustments necessary.

If you are unsure or insecure, get all used outboard motors you're interested in buying, reviewed by an engineer.

9.9 Outboard Motor

Yamaha 9.9 hp Outboard engine

I have a Yamaha 9.9 hp outboard. I thought the water pump quit, but I put a new one and still nothing?

I had the engine running and the small stream of the water exit. I pulled the old pump, but nothing really wrong with looking. I've replaced them, but still no water. Any ideas? I already have the power line and cleared it out. Thanks It should be something else. I appreciate any help. I have the whole engine apart and back together. This morning I found that the water pipe going from the pump to the engine is cracked and the engine was no water. Thanks for any help.

First, you take the pump does the work, because theres no water from the pond hole "? if so, dont. the Pee-hole can be blocked, although the pump. water from the exhaust is what to look for. if the pee hole is clogged by blowing compressed air. when in fact the new pump is not working I something wrong, destroy it.

Outboard engines:

The engine is one of the most necessary parts of the boat. Without it, we will not get very far. Outside Outboard motors are the most common type of propulsion of the ships used today. This engine is mounted on the aft end of the boat with a propeller attached in the water. There are many options and considerations that have to do when it comes to purchasing an outboard motor of your boat. The type or engine power you get depends the size of your boat, the speed you want, and what the ship was used for.

Types of outboard engines:

Both types of outboard motors available are 2-stroke and 4-Stroke engines. There are positives and negatives of each of these types of engines. Due to the lightweight, 2-stroke engines are choose a good top end speed and acceleration is needed. 4-stroke engines run smoother and more economical, and are usually chosen to be used in lakes and rivers.

2-Stroke outboard motors:

2-stroke engines are lighter and faster, allowing more top speed and acceleration. They are also more affordable and have a higher resale value. Because 2-stroke engines have been around for almost 80 years necessary parts are easier to the provision, repair easier. The design of these engines is less complex than a 4-stroke engine, allowing fewer problems as they arise.

There are also some drawbacks to buying a 2-stroke engine. These engines are not as respectful of the environment, and produce more pollution and smoke. In the non oil injection models, it is necessary to mix gas with oil. These engines are noisy, have a more difficult idling, and sometimes difficult to start. There are also some problems with spark plug fouling.

Boaters who would be most likely to choose an engine off 2-stroke outboard if you are interested in speed, performance and acceleration. This may be the engine of choice if you own a smaller boat that can not be able to hold the weight of a 4-Stroke engine. A two-stroke engine is also convenient if you're more familiar with engine repairs, or even want an engine that is easy to repair and may be called at any location to be determined. If you are not required to operate in a water body which is for four-stroke engines only, you may want to buy a 2 stroke. If you want more power for the weight of the engine, or interested in more speed, acceleration and performance, a 2-stroke engine is for you.

4-Stroke outboard motors:

4-stroke engines run quieter and idle smoother, allowing driving more pleasant. They are safer for the economy with less pollution and smoke, and are better on fuel. Are accepted in all bodies of water. These engines are also very reliable.

The negative aspects of a 4-stroke engine is more complex, allowing more problems arise. When required repair is more expensive parts, hard to find trained mechanics, and limited in the market. 4-stroke engines are also less powerful engines of 2 times. Because they weigh more than 2-stroke engines, which may be too heavy for some smaller vessels.

The most likely use a 4-stroke engine, if you're interested in trolling along a quiet ride, no problem. These engines are better for use on larger boats. If the water in your area requires a "4-Stroke only" boat, it's probably a good idea to go with this engine. If you prefer to give the engine speed and acceleration of an engine cleaner you may want to buy a 4 stroke. Also, if you are interested in reducing pollution and smoke, and do not want to have to mix oil, a 4-Stroke engine is for you.

Manufacturers:

2-Stroke: Evinrude, Yamaha, Nissan and Mercury.

4-Stroke: Johnson, Honda, Mercury, Nissan, Suzuki, Tohatsu and Yamaha.

Both engines 2 and 4-Stroke have advantages and disadvantages. You have to decide how to use the engine, and what you want to do for you. Because 4-Stroke engines are newer, are continuous improvement to make the purchase and repair easier for the rider.
