Boat Parts – Learn Some Boating Lingo
I'm trying to find out what the boat would be best oil for use in pulling a suburban February 1?
I'm going to use the truck to pull a boat and It has 92,000 miles on it. It does not burn or leak oil. I just want the best, but do not know what that is. I thought about using Royal Purple, the part store said not to.
Your Suburban calls for 5W-30. Frankly, forget any brand of partial synthetic motor oil. The reason is: There is not a company that actually tells you the exact percentage of the synthetic oil it contains. Give your truck added protection by using a fully synthetic Mobil 1 Truck & SUV 5W-30. It is a fact that oil companies secretly are two very important anti-wear additives (zinc and phosphorus), because the life of catylitic converters. Under no circumstances use 10W-40 in any modern gasoline engine. Any higher viscosity than 5W-30 will not cool the engine as well. The oil pump should also work harder highly viscous oil robs you of power.

What is the best site for buying a used boat?
I live close to Florida and looking for a used trawler (mostly for cruising, not fish). I would like to spend around 40-50K. So, what is a great website to look for my?
We have a boat in Florida Trader magazine is very good … There is also one for the tri-state area, FL, AL, GA. The website to look at is: http://www.boattraderonline.com/adsearch/boatsearchprocess.html Then type in the price range and keyword is "trawler". Then select each state of Florida if you want and it will come with several boats available. Good Luck!

Do outboard prop guards to improve performace of sailboats on?
Does anyone, besides the manufacturer (http://www.propguardmarine.com/test.html) have experience using a prop guard on a boat with an outboard? I am interested in improving the performance of a small outboard on a small pocket cruiser sailboat (1 tonne 21 1 / 2 m LOA bilge keeled Drascombe Drifter). The outboard motor on our boat is far below the fuselage, is not used for steering and is not designed to drive us over the hull speed. Compared to the keel, I can not image that the nozzle can add little extra drag. The manufacturer of the prop guard claims that short-nozzle Style Guard provides more thrust at low speeds, but not experinece with displacement hull boats. Does anyone have experinece with this?
Prop Guards are dangerous! Do not use them! They negatively impact the hyrdrodynamics of the boat and if you do what they can become entangled in the propeller itself caused massive failure and danger to touch. Outboard were designed to operate without a prop guard. You would not make a big metal cage around your vehicle accidents along the road to avoid, would you? No, because it would be a mess aerodynamics and the car is very unsafe because it was not intended such a thing. Instead, try changing the pitch of your propeller, or a wad made up of stainless steel (more torque) or aluminum (faster and less weight). Otherwise you might just need a bigger motor.
